4th recap

Just a few quick thoughts on the 4th of July...for starters Chuck is home this weekend and it is always a treat to have him around. We just got home from the fireworks at our local down town. I am sure I wouldn't have taken the kids by myself, so it was really nice to have the whole family together. This is the FIRST time we have done fire works as part of celebration with kids for the 4th. How sad is that??? We have seen fireworks before but not as part of Independence Day celebration. Tissy doesn't like the noise so she sat there with some serious ear protection on (imagine firing range style). She looks too cute like that.

As we sat there with all the other "locals", I couldn't help but get annoyed by the drunk red necks that were at the park tonight (insert your own sounds of "wooooohooooo, daaang that was a big one"). It was fun to see the fireworks over the water and see them all around the lake. Very cool. It wasn't nearly as good as the ones that we used to see in NJ (how can you compare with ones that are choreographed to music).

I did notice the birds flying around and seemed a little freaked out. Animals never seem to like those loud kabooms. And I did wonder about the alligators that I always see at this park (where were they hiding out?)

So, all that to say, I hope you all had a good FORTH. Even though we are so very patriotic, we didn't even BBQ (can we be American and NOT fire up the grill on holidays?) It was a mix of work around the yard and mingle with the riff raff at the park to see the fireworks. Next year we will have to do better at enjoying the holidays.

We've been deliquent on taking the kids to fire works, too. My mother was really good about letting us viw July 4th fireworks.

There was lots of fireworks out tonight. The smoke got to me and I went in. :( I am a party pooper.

Speaking of animals being freaked out by the fireworks--our 2 dogs did NOT like fireworks in any shape or form. Every holiday with fireworks became a major barking session for them, as our neighbors liked their fireworks! This did not work very well when our little girl was born at home on the 4th of July. She didn't mind the noise very much, but it drove me nuts.

Whoi do people have to equate festivities and alcohol. I am not a prude, for I do consume alcohol, but in moderation. and if children are involved, I refrain. Most people have no clue waht moderation is and go overboard. Well I choose nto to be around that kind of element.

Grrrrr to drunk anythings(Yes, they cease to be peoples and become things when they get drunk)

Sari is right there with Tissy and the noise. At least this year she (mostly) enjoyed the actual fireworks...although she spent the night with her index fingers in her ears and her thumbs stretched into her mouth...it was funny, but it worked.
Next year we'll have to road trip up to you for the 4th, LOL.
I used to live in Memphis and they did great fireworks right down on the river. They were choreographed to music and it was simulcast on the radio. Nothing beats that. It always began with an old guy singing "Old Man River" live and then switched to the recorded music and it always ended with "Proud to be an American".

We didn't see any fireworks this year. I don't think we missed any at all while Chuck was growing up.
Never did do much BBQ stuff for the holiday, but did this year as we were with family in Syracuse. Remember taking Tally in NJ when she was so little.
So much more fun when you are with a child...expecially a grandchild.

Had a great day with our family on this end of the country - but missed you all terribly! We did fire up the grill (actually Joe and Toni's grill) but bowed out of the fireworks. The others waited until 10:15 for the fireworks. Not sure why they were so late! Praying for a good week of VBS for you all. BTW VBS is here at ChEFC as well. Love Love Love!

i couldn't agree with you more about watching fireworks that are in sync with music! The ones i went to here at Crockett Park were decent, but the ones back in California are SOOO much better! I'm so glad that Chuck was able to be home with you all.
I'm praying that your house sells quickly so that I can finally meet you and your girls!!!

Can you tell I am playing catch up with comments on your blog? Sorry for my silent absence and now the onslot of comments...We are still trying to get our life back to normal...
Sorry for the drunk guys at the park. We SO wanted to see fireworks, but we had moved and painted that day and were exhausted. We waited till 10pm and then gave up as we couldn't keep our eyes open. They finally started a little before 11 pm, but we were already almost asleep in bed.
