thrifty finds at a library sale

We went to a used book sale at a local library not long ago and picked up some good deals. I encouraged the girls to bring their own money and see if there was anything that looked good to them. Tally picked out these books. They have kept her busy for a while. She loves stories about animals. We have always been the kind of family that hits the library every week and brought home a big stack to read. Each time we moved, the library was an adventure as we found new books that we hadn't found before. Our local library in our small town is pretty small and it is making me miss our old library. So creating our own library might be worth investing in.These are the ones that Tristen found. She loved the one on the bottom, "Mr. Popper's Penguins". My girls love reading the same books over and over. Familiarity seems to be a comfort for them. These are the ones that I picked out. Or at least these are the ones that I paid for. The girls have enjoyed these too. Not a bad way to increase your home library. Thrifty finds for sure.

Next I will have to share how I organize all of our books. I am on a huge organizing kick around here. With my trusty label maker in hand...all these books will find a place on the book shelf in the school room...stay tuned.

I loosely organize my books by topic-but I mostly organize based on how they look prettiest. Silly, I know.

The main library in the downtown section of the larger city near where you live is fantastic! Or at least it was when I was living in the larger city near where you live now. I used to regularly get books to use in my classroom.

Thrift stores, yard sales and library sales are a great way to boost your home library!

I love Mr. Poppers Penguins, too. Dick even read it to our kids several years ago and he liked it.

I love books! I often buy the same used book more than once (by mistake, but friends usually benefit form it!)

A label maker is definitely high on my want list right now!

Ooh, do tell on the organizing tips. We have books coming out our ears, and I'm forever restacking them.

I also found some good books (and video movies) at the Goodwill.

I am loving my two boys are SO into reading right now...each night, they have lights in their bed and read after lights out. :) I put books in their Easter basket and that was the first thing they sat down with, after exploring the other goodies.

I love that they love to read. We talk about all the adventures they get to experience through reading.

I will have to ask our library about their used book sales. Aren't new books fun? SUCH a treat. Brenton just got 4 new Star Wars books with gift cards for his B-day and it kept all the boys busy for days reading them. We have been borrowing books from friends to read aloud...our latest favorites are "Heros Now and Then", Christian historical biographies. Great read alound books. We are readying Eric Liddle now.

the "Illustrated Classics" are wonderful. I can't say so personally but Hannah eats them up. She has read almost all of them.

We try to shop the library sales at at least two of the local libraries. We love books. We have more than we know what to do with. My big girl is doing "Mr. Popper's Penguins" for language arts next year. Enjoy your finds.
