girl time

Tonight was a night where Chuck had his buddies over to "critique" videos and the girls a I headed out of the house to clear out for them. I wanted to take the opportunity to hit a few stores that I don't get to frequent. We were strolling through Ross hunting for a few household things and noticed a girl shopping with her mom and she was playing a recorder the whole time. At first it was cute (kind of), but she didn't stop. It was really starting to drive me nuts. How do you shop while a preschool age girl is playing a "flute" very loudly and without stopping. The girls and I started laughing about it. Every department we went to, there was "flute girl".

In the next store we were looking at shower curtains. After finding a sample of one that I thought was cute, we were hunting for it on the shelves. They didn't have it and Tally said (completely seriously) "Let's see if we can find another one that would interest you." **When did my 9 year old start sounding like an adult?**

Fast forward to our drive home and we were talking about the evening shopping on our drive home. Joking about our night and Tally used the word "skoontz" (is that how you spell it?) In case you didn't know...Skoontz: an amount somewhere between a little and a big load. A word the kids picked up from Peep. I love when our family has inside jokes.

It was a treat to have a little shopping night out with the girls. I bet we will have more of those as they get older.

OK, I have to ask, are they real Emmy's? What does you husband do exactly? Is he famous? LOL

Glad you had fun shopping with the girls. What is "peep? Does that show I am totally out of it when it comes to American culture? Is Skuntz a real word or made up? Maybe I need to put it on my daily vocabulry chalk board, ha ha. Hey, mom and you and I should plan a "girl weekend" SOMETIME in the next year.

Marissa, they ARE real Emmys. He won 2 last year (find posts under Chuck on the sidebar on the main page). Is he famous? Well...he does get "recognized" every now and then. He is known in the TV/Video community.

Susan, Peep is a show on TLC (cable channel). A cute show about a duck named Quack and birds named Peep and Chirp. I think SKOONTZ(has the oo sound like zoo) is a made up word from that show. It does however, show up in conversations around our home. When Tally used it, I asked her how you would spell it. She wasn't sure. And no...you aren't totally out of it. =)

We love PEEP as well!!! It is one of our favorite shows on the tube. I love science and that is just the coolest show to introduce kids to science. I laughed out loud at the recorder story, talk about make you on edge. I think It would make me shop very fast it someone was blowing a recorder constantly : )

That story about "flute girl" cracked me up. It seems like another adult would be able to ask the mother to stop the flute playing, since she was annoying the entire store and her mother didn't seem to notice. And your kids are growing up, aren't they? I think girls tent to "grow up" faster than boys. I notice it with mine and she's only 4.

That sounds fun, I enjoy shopping with my girls. I just love when they say those grown up things, it is so cute. My Grace is known for that...I really have to try not to laugh.

I think I have the boy version of the "flute" kid. Can't you see Jonny doing something like that! My boys detest shopping unless it involves an electronic store, and we are all currently detoxing since Grandma last visit.

thanks Crispy for clarifying that! I did go back right after I asked that and snoop around your blog to try to figure the Emmy thing out! How cool!

Oh, my ears. Shopping with "flute girl" would be annoying. With Julia taking Recorder and Camille taking Flute, I do "drive with 'flute girls'" now and then. Sometimes we have to squeeze in practice whenever we can. But, I would not subject others to it.
