baby it's cold outside !!

Just curious...what do you set your thermostat at? With the cold snap all across the country, I bet most of us are running the heat. Do you set it lower for night time? Do you adjust it when you leave the house? Do you use space heaters?

Right now, ours is set for 64. Some rooms are warm and others are chilly. The family room is nice and cozy with the fire place burning. But...we have not played in the bonus room for a few days. TOO COLD. Brrrr

We are cold, too! We are trying to save money this year and not have our thermostat so high (I love it toasty warm!). We have been setting ours downstairs in the living area to 65, and leaving the upstairs on 60 during the day. Thomas works up there, but when it is sunny his office warms up quickly. Then we mostly just stay downstairs. Then at night we switch and run the downstairs to 60 and upstairs to 65. We use a space heater in the living room to help. I am ready for some warmer temps, though, my fingers are cold!

We set the downstairs to 61 at night and upstairs to 63 (for the boys). During the day we set the downstairs to 64-66 depending. Upstairs pretty much stays at 63. We just ran out of gas for the fireplace insert so 66 has been the norm the past day or two. Not looking forward to the bill though since it runs constantly with this cold weather.

Us old folks - 69 during the day - downstairs is cold - upstairs is too warm. We knock it down to 62 at night

Well, you guys are a lot colder out there than us!...but we cant sleep with the heater on...too hot and noisy. We sleep better in a cold room tucked under cozy comforters :D We are spoiled with a wood stove during the day...probably not for long though...they are trying to ban them here :(

You + Friends (comments) are set at an applaud level ... our family would freeze if we were set at mid to low 60's. Embarrassed to say we run ours at a toasty warm setting.

I had to give in and bump ours up to 70 yesterday. Hubby got home and gave me a talking to but I was freezing all day! We agreed to keep it on 68.

We keep ours at 68 all winter long, day and night. If we feel a little chilly then we layer up: turtle-neck under sweater; leggings/thermals under pants. And if that doesn't help then we bundle up under our throw blankets.

Ours is generally set at 67, our house is old and we would freeze otherwise.

65 all winter long. We dress in warm laters, each of us wears a pair of warm socks and warm slippers, and at night we make a fire and curl up in comforters on the couch. We sleep REALLY well at night.

After reading the comments, I'm ashamed to post our thermostat setting. Maybe I'm cold blooded, but I just couldn't function if ours was set that low. My bedroom/closet/master bath faces the northeast side of the house and consequently those rooms stay the most frigid. Too cold, in fact, for me to feel comfortable changing my clothes. I admit to finding warmer rooms in the house for disrobing! Even now, I feel comfortable but the boys flinch each time my hands touch them- they are like ice.

We have our thermostat at about 65 in the daytime and 61 or 62 at night, but my instincts tell me that actually it isn't quite that cold.

When the heater is actually blowing it gets very warm, right before it is going on it gets cold.....and OCCASIONALLY for some odd reason, I'll realize that it is HOT in the house - and I'll look and....SO WEIRD! The thermostat will be turned up to 80 degrees or more!

Who does that???? No one will admit it, though it has been suggested by more than one someone that I do it accidentally when I hang my coat on the coat rack. Why do I think this is not what is happening?

Fun question and fun to read people's answers.

We don't turn on our heat all winter...we live in Northern CA so we have a mild winter, but it still gets down to freezing many nights. And it can be damp and cool a lot.

We use our wood stove almost 24-7 in the winter, especially when it is cooler. We even have free wood from a friend at church so we burn in freely. The front room is toasty warm (stays between 65-75), but the bedrooms are pretty cool (about 60)we just use lots of blankets.

Hey, we got a discount from PG and E because of our low winter bills...ooh, whooo!!!

I'm Hawaiian. This cold weather is too much for me. We had this discussion at co-op the other day. Everybody else had theirs set in the 60s. Not me. Ours was at 73. 74 on the really cold nights. I told hubby he had to work some overtime to pay the bill, and he agreed. He's skinny and likes the heat and I can't take the cold.

We kept ours at 68. Some times it felt way too cold.
