Summer Camp

What a highlight of my motherhood...to watch my kids enjoy camp. There is something so very special about camp. Being part of a cabin. Singing silly songs. Swimming in a lake. Hiking in the woods. The sound of the gravel path under your sneakers as you walk to the craft tent. Being hot and sweaty and exhausted and yet not caring. No TV or video games. Mosquito bites. Bible time. What a great experience.

This week my girls are at camp. And they are having a blast. What a blessing to watch them enjoying camp as much as I did. Note to self...always find some money in the budget to get to camp each summer.

Are they at day camp or sleep away camp? Close to home? I am a huge advocate of Christian camping for kids... that's where I was saved when I was 8 years old... so obviously my camping experience had eternal significance.

I am so glad they are having such a great time! I look forward to hearing about their adventures at dinner each night! -- Thanks for introducing this cool custom to our girls... I never went to Summer camp. =(

I only went to camp once. I hated it until the very end b/c I was so homesick (this was a sleep away camp). But, my cabin won the cabin of the week award and we got to go on a really long horseback ride as a reward. So that cemented the whole thing as a good memory for me.
This was the camp, I just looked it up to see if it's still around. It's in TN

Have they been to an overnight camp? I loved the day camps I went to growing up, but only went on one overnight and that was enough for me (I liked the comfort of my home/family). Wish I had been tougher to try the over night camps more. I hear so many kids love them. And as a parent; still feeling it hard to let go for the overnight stuff. You?

This camp had the option of day camp or overnight camp. We went with the day camp option. They have gone to overnight camp before and really had a good time. When they went to overnight camp it was only 2 days and 2 nights. That was the perfect amount of time away.

Yes, I agree money spent on camp can never be waisted. I am glad they are having fun AND you get some quiet, well needed and deserved down time for yourself. ENJOY.

I loved camp growing up too. It was always a good growing experience for me to get to know new people (get over homesickness) and have lot of great Godly input into my life from others.

I still remember loving going to the canteen! I just bought Gobstoppers the other day thinking how the last time I ate them was probably at camp.

I think camp must just be one of those things..... Either you are a "camp" family, or you are not. We were not. My husband was sent to camp and some very unfortunate things happened there that made him vow to never let his kids out of his sight overnight - and certainly not to a camp!

I had my first s'more year before last.
