SCOOTIN'

Sunday was the perfect day for a scoot. We all took a turn on Chuck's scooter. I hadn't been on it in years and felt a bit rusty, but it was easy enough to remember how to do it (though I think I made Chuck a bit nervous).

We all felt a little restricted having to wear helmets. Our current state has a helmet law. I don't go much faster than 12 miles an hour, but you got to follow the rules. There is something super fun about riding around the neighborhood on a scooter. You feel a bit like a novelty. Everyone waves to you and smiles. As Chuck says..."everyone loves scooter guy."

Wow.. how fun is that ... my kids would love to ride on that. My husband has a motorcycle... he is sad that I don't like to ride.. but it makes me too nervous on the main road.

I bet the girls felt like they were in a parade with everyone waving..ha ha

I am so glad you all are together as a family...these are great times!

Maybe when we move to Tokyo we will get a scooter and join the "scoter guy" (and gal) club. It would be a lot easier scooting around on a scooter on those narrow cement-walled Tokyo.

I used to ride scooters with my cousin who's dad owned a Harley shop when i was a kid. It was a lot of fun and I get the novelty thing- I thought I was big stuff.

Chuck, that's the "manliest" scooter I've ever seen. Is that the same one that I have a picture of you & Carl on together? Now that looked smallish. (but still very manly)

You know Shaleen... my given name "Charles" literally means "Manly" ...so... you know, I'm just sort naturally a manly manly man. =)

My husband had a scooter for a few years and did exactly the same thing with our kids. Taking them for rides around the 'hood would fill an entire afternoon.

But please don't curse the helmets too much. My husband also drove his scooter to and from work to save money on gas. Back in August, he was on his way to work, just before daylight. The pavement was a little slick from a light rain, and he went off the road, flipped off his scooter and landed almost headfirst. He suffered a broken scapula and 3 broken ribs, but his head was intact, thank God. I firmly believe that he would have sustained serious head injury without the helmet.

Anyway, not to cause you alarm. My hubby said he would never ride one again. But now, 6 months later, he's craving the scootin' experience again. And he says he will be more careful!

God bless you!
