What are you PASSIONATE about?

We all have different backgrounds and different values. And somehow these experiences make us PASSIONATE about different things. Over the years I have come to be PASSIONATE about a few different things.

  • Good leadership
  • Handling my emotions in a healthy way
  • Effective parenting
  • Reflecting Christ

These are things that evoke strong emotion. According to dictionary.com it means compelled by, or ruled by intense emotion or strong feeling. Lately, Chuck is dealing with some struggles at work and I think it is helping him define what he is PASSIONATE about. Both for his career and personally. I love how the path we travel shapes who we are.

So, what are you PASSIONATE about?

I've definitely been thinking a lot about my personal core values lately... mostly from a business/professional point of view, I drafted a core values document for work, but I found pretty quickly that things I value are not necessarilly the same as those of the company I work. Here are a few excerpts from my (very) long list:

I value...

Quality - I want everything I put my name to be of the highest possible quality.

Innovation - I don't want to just go where others have gone. I want to blaze new trails and find ways to push th elimits of what's being done now to find ways to do them better.

Communication - I believe we can only function as an effective team when we understand each other, and the task at hand.

Trustworthyness - I believe that we need to be people who can be taken at our word. We should say what we mean and mean what we say.

Mission, Vision, Purpose & Planning - The only way to get where you want to go is to know where you want to get. I need to know what I'm working for so I can determine whether or not it's worthy of my time and energy. I need to be "about" something worthwhile.

Inspiration - I don't just want to make a buck out of life, I want to inspire people.

The Future - I believe that the future is more important than the present. What we do today must be weighed in terms of what it will mean to us tomorrow.

...and there you have my $.02... you asked for it!

I am passionate about homeschooling done RIGHT. I feel that the world is watching us and our children, and that we need to set a good example. We have an awesome opportunity to teach our children on an individual level, tailored to their God-given strengths. Homeschooling shouldn't be used as an excuse to sleep in, do the bare minimum, and goof off.

I am also passionate about kids learning how incredible God's world is through science. We need more Christian scientists out there!

Love the responses. Thanks. I was telling Chuck last night I see a difference between PASSIONATE and VALUES. That is not to say that I don't love his list, because I do.

But I see PASSIONATE as something that gets you up on your soap box about. I can "hear" it in Kristin's response. She has PASSION for what she wrote about. And I already know Courtney has a PASSION for orphans. If you ever stop by her blog you will see it.

Now, VALUES...that is another post.=)

Thanks again for commenting.

Passionate about getting God's Word to those who may never have an opportunity to hear if we don't show them!
Remember the song when we were kids...They will know we are Christians by our love. we may be the only Christ some people ever meet.
Passionate about the people of the Czech Republic. They keep looking for happiness in places that are so empty! Sounds like a blog....

- sho others God's love through warmth and friendliness
