lacing cards

Here is a quick and easy craft to make with your kids (or to make FOR your kids). Find cardboard boxes with cute bright pictures on them (save them from cereal boxes, toy packaging, snack boxes, juice pouch boxes). Cut out fun shapes or objects on the box and punch holes on the sides. Tie some yarn to each lacing card.
This post was for my friend Lea who is looking for creative ideas for her toddler and preschooler. I used to teach preschool and loved it, and still have lots of ideas for little ones. I am a fan of rotating out toys each day. When I was teaching preschool each day the kids came in to the room I had something different on the table. Play dough, puzzles, counting bears, lacing cards...and I changed it every day. It encouraged them to play with something that they wouldn't choose off the toy shelf themselves.

More ideas to come.

Always great, creative (and cheap too!) ideas coming from that head of yours!! I still do that with my boys...I will just leave a puzzle or recently not played with game-toys on the floor in their room and they come across it "accidentally" and are kept busy for hours.
We used to only bring our HUGE box of Legos out in the winter...the kids SO looked forward to the 1st snow fall, because that meant they could play with Legos.

FUN, thanks.... do you have ideas for active boys who will make anything into a gun or a sword & hasn't bought the idea that he protects his sisters with them & not try to annilalate(sp?) them?

Thanks Cris, I will try this. I have a lot of boxes I could cut that I haven't recycled. I love your ideas!

Great idea. You should put this one in your book.

Loved this idea! I did this today with a 5-year-old boy - his "school" while his big brother and Earthgirl were doing their quiet work. After we frizzled up the ends, I thought to put a dot of glue, nailpolish, or tape on the ends.

I should have mentioned the tape on the end of the yarn. We also tie our yarn to the card. If I had old shoe laces that would work really well.
